Placenta encapsulation info pack

Firstly, thank you for booking with me and entrusting me to encapsulate your Placenta!

This information package has been derived from the Independent Placenta Encapsulation Network. It contains everything you will need to know in regards to the Placenta Encapsulation process and how the Placenta will need to be stored for collection.

Placenta Storage Guide

A storage pack will be sent to you via post or dropped off to you 3-4 weeks prior to your indicated due date. This will ensure you have all the necessary equipment to store your Placenta safely and correctly for consumption without having to stress. If you’ve made a late booking, I may not provide the storage pack but rather provide instructions on storing with the hospital.

Storage pack contains:

  1. Cooler Bag

  2. 3-4 Ice Blocks

  3. Storage container

  4. 1 Large Zip Lock resealable bag

Storage instructions for HOSPITAL BIRTH:

For HOME BIRTHS, omit use of freezer blocks and place Placenta in fridge immediately after placing it in the plastic bag.

If you are having a CAESAREAN BIRTH, please ensure your doctors and midwives are aware that you would like to keep your Placenta and that you bring your storage container into theatre with you.

The cooler bag can be used to store the placenta until I arrive for collection or you may store the container in the hospital unit’s fridge and transfer to the cooler bag prior to my collection. Please check with the hospital midwives if you can use their freezer to keep the ice blocks frozen during labour.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION.

  • Your Placenta MUST be chilled on ice or in a fridge immediately after cord cutting or within 30 minutes of its birth to ensure it remains safe for consumption.

  • Keep cooler bag with you at all times or in the fridge until transported home or collected by myself.

  • Your Placenta must be collected within 24 hours of its birth. Cooler bags MUST be collected within 12 hours, however if I have not collected it, it must be transported to your home refrigerator for safe storage until I am able to.

  • I will be using an infrared thermometer on collection to ensure it has been stored correctly. It should read 8 degrees or less.

  • If not stored following these guidelines, the Placenta can become infected and no longer safe for consumption.

  • I have the right to decline services if these guidelines are not met and 30% of the total amount will be retained.

  • Please contact me following the birth of your placenta to organise a collection time, my phone number is 0426886488.
